Finger Joint Pain

Who is at Risk for Finger Joint Pain Issues?

Joint finger pain can occur in almost anyone at some point in their life, with nearly 80% of all men and women above the age of 70 suffering from some form of arthritis. However, there are different risk factors and preventative measures that have been shown to help.

Osteoarthritis

For this form joint finger pain, the cause is merely age and wear. The older someone gets, the more wear and tear their joint is forced to undergo. Additionally, weight, which often goes up with age, can be a root cause of this problem as it becomes more prevalent. Repetitive motion throughout life can also contribute to this. For finger joint pain problems, the most common factor that can lead to the pain is typing - something that nearly 70% of all workers do in some form or another in their lives.

Careful stretching, the right kinds of exercise and supplementation of joint protecting additives can go a long way in reducing the effects of this form of finger joint pain, though with age the risks rise exponentially despite attempts to stop it.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

The second root of pain finger joint problems derives from a very common, highly problematic condition known as rheumatoid arthritis. Unlike osteoarthritis, this form of finger joint pain is caused by an autoimmune disorder in which the body begins to attack the joints as foreign bodies, breaking down the joint and causing severe problems.

The condition is systemic as well, which means it can cause any number of additional health problems, ranging from muscle weakness to chest pains.

This form of finger joint pain will strike women more often than men (at a 2 or 3:1 rate) and will usually strike between the ages of 40 and 60, though it has been known to strike at a much older age and as young as 10 years of age. There are strong links in this type of arthritis and genetic indicators. For those that have a family history of rheumatoid arthritis, it is a good idea to start supplementing early and seeing a doctor in your 30s, when preventative measures might be taken.

Other Sources

There are additional sources of finger joint pain, including gout and bacterial problems that can infect and cause severe pain in your body. To prevent these issues, it is a good idea to see a doctor immediately when any symptoms of arthritis start in your fingers or any other joints.
